I am Joanna and I have worked and studied national languages in S&T for several years. I studied in St. Petersburg, Berlin, Paris and Brixen. I am a self-taught painter and started my artistic journey with copies of great masters when I was a student. The inspirations for my pictures are: the great plains which remind me of the landscapes of my childhood in Poland and the encounters in nature with the secret of refraction and the play of colours. I am not so much interested in the reproduction of reality as in its processing.
Studio
I work in the entrance hallway of the house. That’s right! Because out of all the rooms in the house, only here there is a perfect and natural light until the evening to work in. And then, when I need more space and also to better practice my painting I go outside to do some plein air painting. We live in a small village near the Abruzzo National Park, here there are really beautiful places to paint. For the future my husband is building a small studio in the attic but it is not ready yet.
New artworks
The nature around us is so beautiful, precious and full of subjects to “capture” that I only have to paint it, hoping to transmit my impressions to those who also love nature and art. Then I feel inspired by certain people, by their free way of being, to want to make portraits of them. What I try to do in my painting is to be able to tell stories, paintings that know how to narrate, but here I still have to progress, that motivates me to work more.
Inspirations
A strong inspiration for me is the art of Jerzy Duda-Gracz, a wonderful Polish painter who died in 2004. Then I love Russian art, especially painters like Bato Dugarzhapov, Anna Berezovskaja, Victoria Semykina or in the acquarelles Kurbatov and Votsmush. Here on Balthasar I like Hermann Boecker, his art so surprising and magical.
