In the Studio with Elisabeth Hölz

“Humans and animals often appear together in my works, where they meet at eye level in intimate, informal intimacy.” Let’s discover and read more about our talented Elisabeth Hölz!

Studio

My studio is located in the high driveway of an old barn from 1910. It offers a wonderful view of the Vorallgäu hills. I enjoy spending every free minute there and have the opportunity, to realize my ideas in this beautiful environment.

That was not always the case. Eleven years before, I only had a basement room at my disposal. With little light and cold in the winter, although I have made the experience that art can be created can be created in any place, even under unfavorable conditions.

Now I enjoy light, warmth and spaciousness, which gives me the opportunity to work on several possibility to work on several works at the same time.

New artworks

In my studio I create not only acrylic paintings, but also collages, showcases as well as the most diverse objects. Old, found in the river fabric fragments often form the basis for my collages and the hand-sewn figurative sculptures.

My main themes are:

  • Transience
  • Dealing with creation
  • Criticism of the throwaway society

Inspirations

My inspirations arise in part from the found objects that I discover on many forays on River or lake shores discover. It rarely happens that I come home empty-handed.
For me, it is always a challenge to put seemingly worthless things into a new context and in this way and to give them in this way a new sense and experience value.
In painting, I am inspired by the Were of Gauguin, Paulo-Modersohn-Becker and Suzanne Valadon.
People and animals – sometimes abstract landscapes are my favorite subjects.
